July 2020

Our History

In 2019 we screened over 170 films from around the world at various locations across the historic market town for Wirksworth, Derbyshire. The screening took place during the 25th anniversary of the Wirksworth Arts Festival. For 2020 we have taken the festival out of this time slot and chosen a week in July, to be followed by screenings to take place during the Wirksworth Festival in Sept 2020.

Our Festival

Formally known as the Wirksworth 3 Minute Film Festival , for the 2020 season the decision was taken to expand our film categories and make the festival larger and better. So for 2020 we will be continuing to accept 3 Minute Films, but we have added short films under 15 mins, extra long short films (under 30 mins) and feature films. The festival is open to all filmmakers and entries will be accepted until the end of May 2020.

Our Programs

Screening of films will take place in July 2020 at various venues across the town of Wirksworth, Derbyshire. Keep your eyes on the website for updates.

Our Festival

We are now open for submissions.

We are very pleased to have received over 160 entries from over 40 countries from around the world for our first Festival

For 2020 we want to grow, that is why we have chosen a week long period  in July 2020. This will give us a better opportunity to screen the best of the films received. We are also aiming to have q and a's with filmmakers and workshops .

The Northern Light Cinema

We love films so we like to think we know what we're doing, bringing a mix of modern and classic, comedy and drama, a spot of sci-fi and just the odd 'soupçon' of horror. Our goal is to bring you the best that the wonderful world of cinema has to offer. Film has the power to engage and inspire, and open our eyes to new possibilities. We're passionate about the cinema experience, and we work hard to make sure our programme is exciting, engaging and inclusive for all.
